"It was my first attempt at a float design. I really enjoyed working with the other designers and dectorators, especially carving the little girl's face, the mouse and snail out of the styrofoam," said Swain. Rose Parade festivities continue in Memorial Park on Saturday, as residents stopped to get an up close look at the city's winning float. 'I saw the float on TV, but came to see it in person, since it was designed by my granddaughter, Jennifer Swain. The details always amaze me,' Ruth Lyle said.

La Canada Valley Sun, May 13, 2004 - 'Family Getaway' concept artist, rendering revealed, by Jane Napier Neely. "Activity is revving up for the 2005 LCF Tournament of Roses float entry, 'Family Getaway'. LCF Tournament of Roses Member, Jennifer Swain, should be taking a bow. Her concept of three frogs escaping on a bicycle built for three from a French restaurant advertising the daily special of frogs' legs and its chef trying to catch them, was accepted as the winning entry in the annual float concept contest. Not only did she come up with the concept but, as an artist, she just completed the colorful rendering and is also helping out with construction. Swain who has been a member of the local TorR for three years is enjoying being part of this community project. Her first float design was for award winning 'Backyard Heroes' and she also designed last year's float which won as welll 'Cactus Practice'. "I'm absolutely thrilled this design concept was accepted and we are now moving forward on it," said Swain.
